KITO G 23.4 N – Bidirectional In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-X12 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and process equipment against stable detonation in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors. The -T / -TT variants are equipped with one or two PT100 sensors for monitoring short-duration burning events.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion Groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max Operating Pressure: 3.0 bar abs.
  • Max Operating Temperature: 120 °C
  • Certification: Detonation flame arrester type 4
  • Installation: Horizontal or vertical pipe orientation

Thermal Monitoring

With a single PT100, the sensor should be installed on the body side where ignition is most likely. Dual PT100s enable monitoring on both sides. The sensor is intended for alarm or interlock functions, not as an actuator.

Sizes and Connections

Available in NG 150 to NG 500 with DN 50 to DN 250 connections. DN 50–150 are PN 16; DN 200–250 are PN 10. Optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF flanges, 2" to 10".

Materials

  • Body: Cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: Fully replaceable
  • Shell: Stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • Mesh: Stainless 1.4571
  • Bolts/Nuts: A2

Application Selection

The G 23.4 N differs from G 23.3 N mainly in temperature rating: 120 °C vs. 250 °C, with the same max pressure 3.0 bar abs.. Selection should consider MESG, explosion group, DN, flow rate, pressure drop, temperature, gasket material, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-X12

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-X12-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 3.0 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 120 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
