KITO G 23.2 N – Bidirectional In-line Detonation Flame Arrester

The KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0 is a bidirectional in-line detonation flame arrester designed for the protection of vessels and equipment against stable detonation in pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Tested and certified as a detonation flame arrester type 4.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion groups: IIA1 to IIA
  • MESG: > 0.9 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 3.0 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical pipelines
  • Protection: bidirectional, suitable where ignition may originate from either side of the line

Thermal Monitoring

The -T version is equipped with one PT100 sensor; the -TT version has two sensors. For single-sensor units, the PT100 should be installed on the side where ignition is most probable. Dual-sensor units monitor both sides for short-duration burning events.

Dimensions and Connections

G 23.2 N is available as NG 100 with DN 40 PN 40 or DN 50 PN 16 connections. Optional flanges: ASME 1½" or 2" Class 150 RF. Standard connection: EN 1092-1 type B1.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • KITO element: fully replaceable
  • Shell: galvanized steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2

Application Selection

G 23.2 N differs from other G 23 variants by its 3.0 bar abs. pressure limit for small diameters (DN 40–50). Selection must consider explosion group, MESG, flow rate, pressure drop, temperature, operating pressure, and PT100 requirement. Flow curves are based on air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K.

Description

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0

KITO® EFA-Det4-IIA-…/…-3.0-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against stable detonation of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Tested and approved as detonation flame arrester type 4.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experi-mental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 3.0 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The installation of the detonation flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permis-sible.
  • Provided with one or two temperature sensors (PT 100) the armature is certified against short time burning from one or both sides.
  • If only one thermal sensor is attached, it must be installed into that part of the body from which a fire is expected.
