KITO H 35 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 35 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for installation in piping systems to prevent flame transmission in flammable gases and vapor service. It is suitable for the protection of tanks, process equipment, and piping sections. The series corresponds to types KITO EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-1.2 and EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-1.2-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIA, MESG > 0.9 mm
  • Maximum operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Maximum operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Maximum ignition source distance: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100 sensors

Applications

H 35 N is used in tank venting, vapor recovery, vent lines, chemical processing, and units where ignition may occur on either side of the device. Compared to IIA1 models, H 35 N covers a broader explosion group up to IIA, subject to MESG > 0.9 mm.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in NG 65 to NG 800, with flanged connections DN 25 to DN 400. DIN connections include PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10 depending on size. ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF available from 1" to 16".

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO grid: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Selection Criteria

Selection must confirm explosion group, DN, flow rate, pressure drop, operating pressure/temperature, and potential contamination by condensate or particulates. Flow curves are provided for air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K and atmospheric pressure.

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
