KITO H 34.2 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 34.2 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors. It is installed to protect vessels, process equipment, and pipeline sections from flame transmission within piping systems. This series corresponds to KITO types EFA-Def0-I-…/…-6.0 and EFA-Def0-I-…/…-6.0-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Maximum operating pressure: 6.0 bar abs.
  • Maximum operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Maximum ignition source distance: 50 × internal pipe diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100 sensors

Application Scope

The H 34.2 N is selected when bidirectional deflagration protection is required at higher operating pressures compared to 1.2 or 2.5 bar abs variants. Typical uses include vapor recovery, tank venting, off-gas lines, and process piping where ignition cannot be limited to one side of the equipment.

Dimensions and Connections

Available sizes: NG 65 and NG 150. Flanged connections: DN 25 PN 40, DN 50 PN 16, DN 65 PN 16, DN 80 PN 16. ASME equivalents: 1", 2", 2½", 3". Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1 or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Element: steel or stainless 1.4571
  • KITO grid: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Selection Criteria

Selection must confirm explosion group, DN, pressure, temperature, flow rate, pressure drop, and potential element contamination from condensate or solids. Flow curves are provided for air at ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K, atmospheric pressure.

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-6.0

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-6.0-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 6.0 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the defla-gration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
