KITO H 34 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 34 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for the protection of vessels, equipment, and pipeline sections containing flammable gases or vapors. The series is referenced as KITO EFA-Def0-I-…/…-2.5 and EFA-Def0-I-…/…-2.5-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Operating pressure: up to 2.5 bar abs.
  • Operating temperature: up to 60 °C
  • Max. ignition source distance: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min, with one or two PT100 sensors

Applications

Typical use includes tank vent lines, vapor recovery systems, process venting, and pipelines where ignition may occur on either side of the device. Compared to lower pressure variants, the H 34 N is selected when certified deflagration operation up to 2.5 bar abs. is required, within the specified explosion group and temperature limits.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in NG 65 to NG 600, with flanged connections DN 25 to DN 300. DIN pressure classes include PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10, depending on diameter. Optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF connections from 1" to 12".

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO grid: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

Selection Criteria

Selection must confirm explosion group, pressure, temperature, pipe DN, flow rate, pressure drop, and potential contamination of the element by condensate or particulates. Flow curves are provided for air at 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K, and atmospheric pressure.

Certification

The H 34 N holds a type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-2.5

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-2.5-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 2.5 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the Deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
