KITO H 33.3 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrester

The KITO H 33.3 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrester designed for piping systems connected to tanks, process equipment, or installation sections handling flammable gases and vapors. The series is designated as KITO EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-X16 and EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-X16-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Operating pressure: up to 1.2 bar abs.
  • Operating temperature: up to 160 °C
  • Max. distance from ignition source: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100 sensors

Applications

Typical applications include tank vent lines, vapor recovery systems, process venting, and piping where ignition may occur on either side of the device. Compared to 60 °C variants, the H 33.3 N supports higher operating temperatures up to 160 °C, provided pressure, explosion group, and L/D ratio limits are maintained.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in NG 800 configuration with flanged connections DN 350 PN 10 or DN 400 PN 10. ASME equivalents are 14" and 16". Key dimensions: D1 1015 mm, D2 810 mm, L1 1328 mm, H 88 mm, L2 620 mm.

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrester element: fully replaceable
  • Casing and KITO grid: stainless steel 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2
  • Flanges: EN 1092-1 type B1 or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF

Monitoring

-T / -TT versions include PT100 sensor, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571. If only one sensor is used, it is installed on the side where combustion is expected, enabling interlock for flow shutoff or inerting.

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-X16

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-X16-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 160 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
