KITO H 33.1 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 33.1 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for installation in piping connected to tanks, process equipment, and network sections handling flammable gases or vapors. The series is referenced as KITO CFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2 and CFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Operating pressure: up to 1.2 bar abs.
  • Operating temperature: up to 60 °C
  • Max. ignition source distance: 50 × internal pipe diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical orientation
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100 sensors

Typical Applications

Applied in tank venting, vapor recovery lines, venting of chemical/pharmaceutical processes, and networks where flame propagation direction cannot be clearly defined. Selection must confirm explosion group, temperature, pressure, flow, pressure drop, and potential element contamination from condensate or particulates.

Dimensions and Connections

Series covers NG 150 to NG 800, with flanged connections DN 50 to DN 400. DIN connections include PN 16 for smaller diameters and PN 10 for larger sizes; ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF is also available.

Construction Materials

  • Body: carbon steel or optional stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO grid: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

FAQ

When is PT100 sensor installed?
Required when thermal load detection and interlock activation (e.g., flow shutdown or inerting) are specified. With a single PT100, the sensor is installed on the side where combustion is most likely.

Which certification applies?
Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® CFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2

KITO® CFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the Deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
