KITO H 33 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 33 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for piping systems connected to vessels, process equipment, or installation sections handling flammable gases and liquid vapors. The series is referenced as KITO EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2 and EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-T / -TT.

Application Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Operating pressure: up to 1.2 bar abs.
  • Operating temperature: up to 60 °C
  • Max. distance from potential ignition source: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Stabilized burning: short-time burning protection with tBT = 1.0 min when equipped with one or two PT100 sensors

Applications

Suitable for tank vent lines, vapor recovery, process venting, and piping where ignition may occur from either side of the device. Bidirectional certification eliminates the need to specify flame propagation direction in P&ID documentation.

Dimensions and Connections

Available for DN 25 to DN 400, with NG 65 to NG 800 configurations. Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1 or optionally ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF. Flange pressure ratings include PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10, depending on DN.

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gaskets: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: replaceable
  • Element housing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

FAQ

When is PT100 required?
PT100 is specified when thermal load detection and safety action (e.g., flow cut-off or inerting) are required by process risk assessment.

Which standard applies?
Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Def0-I-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance be-tween a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the defla-gration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
