KITO H 31 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 31 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for the protection of tanks, process equipment, and pipeline sections against flame propagation in flammable gases or vaporized liquids. It is suitable for horizontal or vertical installation, with a maximum operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and temperature up to 60 °C.

Application Limits

Certified for explosion group IIA1 substances with MESG ≥ 1.14 mm. The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrestor must not exceed 50 times the pipe’s internal diameter. The unit withstands stabilized burning for a maximum duration of BT = 1.0 min.

Typical Applications

  • tank venting with flammable vapors
  • vapor recovery and process vent lines
  • chemical and pharmaceutical installations
  • equipment protection upstream/downstream of ignition risk points

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 50 to DN 300 with EN 1092-1 type B1 flanges. ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF connections are also available, covering nominal sizes 2" to 12". DIN variants are supplied as PN 16 for smaller diameters and PN 10 for larger sizes.

Materials and Variants

Construction options:

  • body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • gaskets: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • KITO mesh: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A4

The KITO INE-I-…/…-1.2-T or -TT variant accepts a PT100 sensor (3/8" connection) for thermal monitoring of the flame arrestor element.

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on explosion group, pressure, temperature, pipe diameter, allowable pressure drop, and flow rate. Flow curves are provided for air at 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K, and atmospheric pressure.

Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® INE-I-…/…-1.2

KITO® INE-I-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • An installation into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • To detect a thermal load on the KITO® flame arrester element in operation, a temperature sensor can be implemented as an option into the flame arrester body.
  • Proof against “stabilized burning” and withstand this up to a max. burn time BT = 1.0 min.
