KITO H 32 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 32 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for installation in piping connected to vessels, process equipment, or network sections handling flammable gases and liquid vapors. The device is engineered to prevent flame transmission in both flow directions within the pipeline.

Operating and Installation Limits

Key selection parameters:

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Maximum operating pressure: 1.5 bar abs.
  • Maximum operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Maximum distance from potential ignition source: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Stabilized burning resistance: BT = 1.0 min

Applications

Typical uses include tank venting, vapor recovery lines, chemical process venting, and piping where ignition sources may be present on either side of the device. Bidirectional operation is critical where P&ID does not allow safe assumption of unidirectional ignition risk.

Dimensions and Connections

Available in DN 65 to DN 300, with EN 1092-1 type B1 flanges or optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF. Sizes NG 150 to NG 400, weights range from approx. 19 to 139 kg depending on diameter and variant.

Construction Materials

Three main variants:

  • Variant I: body 1.0619, gasket HD 3822, element 1.4310
  • Variant II: body 1.0619, gasket PTFE, element 1.4571
  • Variant III: cast stainless body 1.4408, gasket PTFE, element 1.4571

The flame arrestor element is replaceable. Optional PT100 sensor (3/8" 1.4571) for thermal monitoring is available.

Selection Criteria

Selection should consider explosion group, flow rate, allowable pressure drop, pipe DN, possible condensate presence, and temperature monitoring requirements. Flow curves are provided for air at 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K.

Certification

H 32 N holds type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® INE-I-…/…-1.5

KITO® INE-I-…/…-1.5-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.5 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance be-tween a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • An installation into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • To detect a thermal load on the KITO® flame arrester element in operation, a temperature sensor can be implemented as an option into the flame arrester body.
  • Proof against “stabilized burning” and withstand this up to a max. burn time BT = 1.0 min.
