MACOGA MAC-F – Full-Face Unrestrained Elastomeric Expansion Joint

The MAC-F is a custom-built, full-face elastomeric expansion joint with integrated elastomeric flanges and metallic backing flanges. It is designed for axial, lateral, and angular movement compensation in piping systems.

Operating Principle

This is an unrestrained type. It does not absorb pressure thrust from internal pressure; therefore, the piping system must be equipped with properly calculated main anchors, directional anchors, and alignment guides. Initial pressurization should include checks for unwanted elongation.

Construction

  • Sizes: DN15 to DN6000
  • Body: smooth, single, or multi-convoluted
  • Flanges: split or fixed backing flanges
  • Flange materials: painted carbon steel, galvanized, or stainless steel
  • Drilling: EN, ANSI, AWWA, JIS, or project-specific
  • Vacuum service: internal vacuum ring available

Materials and Media Compatibility

Available in EPDM, EPDM HT, NBR, white NBR, Hypalon/CSM, SBR, Neoprene, and FKM/Viton. EPDM is used for water, seawater, hot water, and oil-free air. NBR is selected for oils, fuels, and hydrocarbons. SBR or natural rubber is used for sewage, sludge, and solids-laden fluids. FKM/Viton is suitable for chemicals, solvents, and hydrocarbons up to 150 °C.

Installation and Sealing

Not intended for misalignment correction unless specified in design. The full-face elastomeric surface seals directly to the pipe flange; no additional gasket is required. Bolts must be tightened crosswise in stages using a torque wrench.

Variant Comparison

MAC-FT: includes tie rods for pressure thrust restraint.
MAC-FP: limits angular movement to a single plane.
MAC-FC: gimbal type for multi-plane angular movement.
MAC-FB: pressure balanced for applications where load transfer to equipment is not permitted.

No actuator is included. Selection is based on DN, pressure, temperature, media, vacuum requirements, movement, and available pipe anchoring.

Description

A high-quality custom made single arch unrestrained expansion joint consisting of a rubber bellow incorporating full face rubber flanges and metal backing flanges.

This model absorbs all the movements in any one length of piping.

Unrestrained expansion joints under pressure will exert a considerable axial force on the pipeline, i.e. anchors. It is essential that checks are carried out when the expansion joint is first pressurized to ensure that there is no unforeseen stretching of the bellows. If unforeseen movement is apparent, then the pipe guides or anchors shall be examined to ensure that they have been installed correctly and sufficiently designed for the duty.
