Macoga MRU Rectangular Expansion Joints

Macoga MRU are rectangular metallic expansion joints featuring U-shaped convolutions and rounded corners. They are specified for ducting and rectangular ductwork where absorption of thermal movement is required in non-standard cross-sections. Each unit is engineered to order based on duct dimensions, design pressure, temperature, and required movement.

Operating Conditions

MRU series is designed for low and medium pressure service, as well as full vacuum applications. End connections are available as flanged or weld ends, depending on the mechanical layout of the duct system.

Movements and Anchoring

MRU joints are unrestrained types. They do not absorb pressure thrust; therefore, main anchors, directional anchors, and alignment guides are required in the piping system.

  • Primary use: axial movement
  • Lateral movement: limited, typically with dual bellows arrangement
  • Angular movement: only with special design
  • Pressure thrust: must be absorbed by the installation, not by the joint

Typical Applications

  • Exhaust gas ducts
  • Process air ducts
  • Power generation units
  • Chemical and petrochemical plants
  • Steelworks
  • Rectangular duct systems with thermal expansion

MRU vs MRW / MRV

  • MRU: U-shaped convolutions, rounded corners, low/medium pressure and vacuum service
  • MRW: V-shaped convolutions, camera corner, highly flexible for low pressure and vacuum
  • MRV: V-shaped convolutions, miter corner, single or double angle

Installation and Inspection

MRU joints are not intended for correcting misalignment. Prior to installation, check nameplate data, convolution cleanliness, gaskets, guides, and anchors. Remove yellow transport bars before pressure testing; for hydrostatic tests, use chloride-free water.

FAQ

Is it suitable for high pressure?
Not as a standard application. The series is intended for low/medium pressure and vacuum service.

Is an actuator required?
No. The joint operates passively, responding to duct movement.
