Macoga LENS Expansion Joints

Macoga LENS / M-Lens are metallic expansion joints with thick wall single-ply construction and a large convolution profile. Welding is performed at the upper part of the convolution. The series belongs to the same family as MUX, but M-Lens covers smaller diameters and does not have a predefined convolution height limit.

Technical Specifications

  • Type: Thick wall, M-Lens series
  • Sizes: DN50 to DN10000
  • Construction: Single or multiple convolutions
  • Shape: Circular, oval, or custom geometry
  • Connections: Flanges, weld ends, or bellows-only element
  • Materials: 304, 321, 316, 316L, 310, 309, Inconel, Incoloy, Hastelloy, P265GH, 16Mo3, 13CrMo44

Movements and Anchoring

LENS series can be engineered for axial, lateral, and angular movements in one or more planes. No internal pressure thrust compensation is provided; main anchors, guides, and supports must be specified in the piping design.

Typical Applications

Used in heat exchangers, furnaces, kiln ducts, blast furnace pipework, hot gas lines, flue gas, and large-diameter special piping. Selection is based on pressure, temperature, operating cycles, movement requirements, spring rate, material, and welding/NDT requirements.

Installation and Inspection

Not intended for misalignment correction. Prior to installation, verify nameplate data, convolution cleanliness, gaskets, and flow direction if an internal sleeve is present. Protect bellows from impact, scoring, arc strikes, and weld spatter.

Remove yellow transport bars before pressure testing. Hydraulic tests require chloride-free water.

FAQ

Is an actuator required?
No. This is a passive piping component.

How does it differ from MUX?
M-Lens covers DN50–DN10000 and allows custom convolution height; MUX is for DN250–DN8000 with convolution height up to 90 mm.

Description

High convolution profile and thick ply construction. Welded in the upper part of the corrugation.
