SONDEX® Evaporators / Danfoss

SONDEX® evaporators are plate heat exchangers designed for liquid evaporation in product condensation processes, requiring controlled vapor distribution, short residence time, and stable thermal loading. Constructed with semi-welded plate cassettes, they separate the two media within the plate pack, minimizing mixing risks.

Evaporation Function

The specialized plate geometry includes an enlarged steam inlet to handle large volumes of steam or product vapors. In multi-effect evaporations, product vapors can serve as a heating medium in subsequent stages, reducing fresh steam demand. The setup is also suitable for MVR and TVR, operating with minimal temperature differences.

Description

Our SONDEX® plate evaporators are designed to handle advanced evaporation duties. Using semi-welded plate cassettes, the media are guaranteed to never mix. The plate cassettes are designed to ensure the optimal level of turbulence on both sides while providing an even distribution of the media for superior performance and product quality.

Our standard, semi-welded, and brazed SONDEX® plate heat exchangers are outstanding choices for standard evaporation duties.

However, certain applications prove unsuitable for regular heat exchanger types. To help you obtain unsurpassed product quality, we have created exclusive evaporator plates tailored to meet the challenges presented by advanced evaporation applications.

Features and benefits

  • Special plate design featuring an extra-large inlet connection for steam. Steam consumption can be reduced when operating with multi-stage evaporators, as the product vapor will serve as the heating media.
  • Flexible design that makes it easy to increase capacity by adding additional cassettes or decrease it to save energy. Low residence time leads to perfect evaporation conditions and superior product quality.
  • High performance, even with low temperature differences between the media, which is especially great for mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) and thermal vapor recompression (TVR).
