Cla-Val RF-DBO Slip-Over Duckbill Check Valve

The RF-DBO is an elastomeric slip-over check valve designed for direct installation onto the plain end of existing pipelines. Secured externally with stainless steel clamps, this configuration is primarily used for low inlet pressure applications, such as outfalls, manholes, and non-flanged drainage lines.

Operation

Forward differential pressure opens the valve lips, while backpressure compresses them to restrict reverse flow. The design contains no shafts, hinges, metallic seats, or actuators. Typical initial opening pressure for this series is 1–2 inches water column.

Dimensions and Connection

  • Nominal sizes: 3/4"–72".
  • Specify model, pipe outside diameter, and elastomer code when ordering.
  • 2"–12" sizes include a removable filler strip for adaptation to Sch 40 steel and ductile iron pipe ODs.
  • For DN ≤10", T-bolt or worm gear clamps are used; larger diameters utilize custom stainless steel clamps.

Elastomer Materials

EPDM for wastewater and dilute acids; Buna-N for oils, greases, and hydrocarbons; Natural Rubber for abrasive media; Neoprene for moderate chemicals and marine fouling; Viton, Hypalon, or Butyl for specialized chemical compatibility. NSF/ANSI 61 certified configurations available on request.

Installation

For horizontal installations, the duckbill opening is oriented vertically. In sloped bottom versions, the eccentricity is positioned at 6 o’clock; up to 35° rotation is permissible for clearance. After clamp tightening, anchoring with bolt/pin through cuff, valve, and pipe is required.

RF-DBO vs RF-DBF / RF-DBI

RF-DBF bolts to a flange. RF-DBI installs inside a flanged line. RF-DBO is selected for plain-end pipe terminations requiring external slip-over connection with clamps.
