KITO B5.9N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrester

The KITO® BEH/M-IIB1-… type B5.9N is a terminal venting device for tank breathing openings. It functions as an end-of-line flame arrester for storage tanks, manway covers, and breather pipes, allowing gas flow to atmosphere and air ingress into the tank.

Application Scope

This version is suitable for flammable liquids and vapors in explosion group IIB1 with MESG ≥ 0.85 mm and a maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. With additional assessment and approval, it can be used for alcohols such as ethanol or methanol. Installation in enclosed spaces is not permitted.

Dimensions and Configuration

The assembly covers large vent openings using multiple flame arrester elements:

• DN 80 PN 16 – 2 elements
• DN 100 PN 16 – 3 elements
• DN 125 PN 16 – 3 elements
• DN 150 PN 16 – 4 elements
• DN 200 PN 10 – 6 elements

Standard connection is flange EN 1092-1 type B1, with option for ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Construction Materials

• Body: carbon steel, optionally stainless steel 1.4571
• Special element body BEH-3-80-IIB1: cast steel 1.0619 or stainless cast steel 1.4408
• Flame arrester element: fully replaceable
• Shell / mesh: 1.4408 / 1.4310 or 1.4408 / 1.4571
• Weather hood: PMMA
• Protective mesh: PA 6

Selection and Operation

B5.9N is selected where flashback protection is required for atmospheric tank venting, without pressure/vacuum regulation. This is not a P/V valve and has no actuator. DN selection should be based on required breathing capacity, allowable pressure drop, and explosion group of the medium.

Type certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU for KITO® BEH-3-80-IIB1.
