KITO B4N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrestor

The KITO® BEH-3-…-IIB1 type B4N is a terminal flame arrestor for tank venting applications. It is designed for use with flammable liquids and vapors in explosion group IIB1, and can be used with alcohols subject to additional review and approval. The MESG limit is ≥ 0.85 mm, and the maximum operating temperature is 60°C.

The device allows gas discharge to atmosphere and air intake into the tank, while restricting flame propagation into the vessel. Installation in enclosed spaces is not permitted.

Dimensions and Connections

Available nominal sizes: DN 50, DN 65, DN 80, all PN 16. ASME equivalents: 2", 2½", 3". Standard connection is EN 1092-1 type B1 flange, with ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF as an option.

Sizing Selection

Sizing must be based on required breathing capacity, allowable pressure drop, and gas density. Flow curves refer to air at ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, T = 273 K, atmospheric pressure. For other gases, correction for density is required.

Standards and Operation

B4N is supplied with type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU. This is not a pressure/vacuum relief valve and has no actuator; operation is passive.

Description

  • As an end-of-line flame arrester to protect vent openings of storage tanks.
  • Explosion and endurance burning proof for all inflammable liquids and vapors of explosion group IIB1 and also for alcohols with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.85 mm and an
  • maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or breather pipelines.
  • The flame arrester protects a tank against flashbacks but allows the flow of gases out into the atmosphere and air into the tank.
  • With additional examination and approval, applicable also for alcohols (ethanol, methanol…)
