Globe Valve Bellow Seal - Fig. 84 | Comeval

Comeval Fig. 84 — ANSI Globe Valve with Bellows

The Comeval Fig. 84 / Series UNIFLOW 84 is a cast globe valve designed for unidirectional flow, suitable for isolating lines in steam, gases, HVAC, lubrication, power, chemical, and oil & gas applications. Flow passes beneath the seat; the weir-type body results in higher pressure drop compared to gate valves, but allows limited throttling when equipped with an appropriate regulating plug.

Versions and Standards

  • Standardization: ANSI / ASME.
  • Pressure Classes: Class 150, 300, 600.
  • Connections: Flanged RF or RTJ per ASME B16.5, and BW per ASME B16.25.
  • Face-to-face: ASME B16.10.
  • Design: BS 1873 / ASME B16.34.
  • Testing: API 598, Marking MSS SP-25.

Materials and Sealing

The standard version features a body of ASTM A216 WCB + 13Cr, with available trims WCB+13Cr or WCB+HF. The stem is ASTM A182 F6a, gaskets are SS304 + graphite, and the bellows is SS316L, with alternatives such as SS316Ti, Inconel, Incoloy, or Hastelloy. Secondary sealing is achieved with flexible graphite, with an option for Ta-Luft certified packing.

Valve Selection

Selection should be based on:

  • Class 150/300/600 and pressure-temperature rating per ASME B16.34.
  • DN/NPS and face-to-face constraints.
  • Media compatibility with body, trim, and bellows.
  • Differential pressure, required Kvs, and potential need for throttling plug.
  • Handling requirement: handwheel, gearbox, or actuator.

Maintenance and Operation

The bellows limits leakage to the atmosphere at the stem, while the graphite packing serves as secondary sealing. In applications with particulates, condensates, or high flow velocity, seat/disc wear and line cleanliness should be checked before startup.

FAQ

Can it be used for regulation?
Only if a throttling plug is specified and ΔP, flow velocity, and seat wear are checked.

When to choose Class 600 over Class 150/300?
When the piping class or pressure-temperature rating of the installation requires higher allowable operating pressure per ASME B16.34.

Description

Metal seated globe valves, unidirectional, for stopping the flow in process, power and oil&gas applications. The atmospheric sealing is achieved by flexible graphite rings or by bellows. Operated by handwheel, gear or actuator. Weir body leads to higher pressure drop compared to gate or ball valves but operation is quicker and this feature allows to use the valve as regulating valve when arranged with throttling plug.

Specification of the range:

Diverse design combinations by pattern of construction (straight through, angle, Y type), plug designs (marginal, regulating, non-return, balancing, V-port, stellited, soft seal), bellows seal and secondary sealing designs, end connections (flanged, BW, SW, threads), materials of construction (cast and forged) and trims, nominal size range (DN10-DN600 / 3/8-24"), design pressure range (PN16-420 / ANSI Class 150-2500), as well as operation style and accessories.
