Strainer "Y" Cast Iron JIS F7220
Cast Iron Y-Strainer JIS F7220
Cast iron Y-type strainer for marine piping systems, manufactured in accordance with JIS F 7220-1996 and tested per JIS F 7200-1996. Construction includes body and cover in FC200, internal strainer element in SUS304, and hydrostatic body test at 1.05 MPa.
Function in Piping Networks
The Y-strainer is installed upstream of check valves, pumps, pressure regulators, heat exchangers, instrumentation, or nozzles to retain solid particles that may cause wear, blockage, or incomplete valve closure.
In marine systems, typical installation lines include:
- fresh water and seawater service
- cooling water circuits
- bilge and ballast lines (where specification allows)
- fuel oil or lube oil (after verifying material, temperature, and viscosity compatibility)
- auxiliary engine room circuits
Technical Selection Data
- Type: Y strainer
- Design standard: JIS F 7220-1996
- Test standard: JIS F 7200-1996
- Body: FC200 cast iron
- Cover: FC200
- Strainer element: SUS304
- Available sizes: DN20 to DN150
- Hydrostatic test pressure: 1.05 MPa
Installation Criteria
Selection should be based on DN, JIS flange drilling, operating pressure, temperature, allowable pressure drop, and strainer mesh size. Flow direction must follow body marking. Cover must remain accessible for cleaning without pipe removal.
Maintenance
Periodic inspection should include:
- solid accumulation on SUS304 element
- differential pressure across the strainer
- cover and gasket tightness
- body corrosion (FC200)
- condition of bolts and flanges
FAQ
Is this an isolation valve?
No. It is an in-line strainer and does not replace an isolation valve.
Where is it installed?
On suction or at the inlet of sensitive equipment, as indicated on the P&ID.
What must be confirmed before procurement?
DN, JIS flange, operating pressure, gasket material, and required mesh size.
