DonadonSDD Graphite Rupture Disks
DonadonSDD G-GA, G-GM, and G-GR graphite rupture disks are specified for overpressure protection in vessels, reactors, tanks, and piping systems. These are single-use devices: upon reaching the rated burst pressure, the disk fully opens and must be replaced. Fragmentation occurs on activation, so these disks are not intended for installation beneath safety relief valves.
Materials and Operating Limits
High-purity graphite is selected for corrosive media, low burst pressures, and minimal burst pressure sensitivity to temperature changes. GM and GR variants use graphite impregnated with phenolic resins for improved tightness.
- DN: 25–300 for G-GA, 25–600 for G-GM, 25–200 for G-GR
- Burst pressure: 0.017–15 barg, depending on diameter and construction
- Tolerance: ±10% to ±20%
- Operating ratio: up to 75% of burst pressure
- Temperature: -60 to +300°C for G-GA, -60 to +180°C for G-GM / G-GR
- Certification: PED / CE available
- Leak detection: electrical sensor available
G-GA / G-GM / G-GR Variant Differences
G-GA: Replaceable graphite disk in stainless steel ring, direct flange installation. No vacuum support.
G-GM: Monoblock graphite disk, direct flange mounting. Vacuum support available, required for burst pressures below 1.7 barg.
G-GR: Replaceable disk in graphite or metal holder. Graphite holder rated up to 10 barg, metal holder up to 15 barg.
Applications
Suitable for chemical processes, corrosive gases or liquids, storage tanks, reactors, and lines requiring immediate pressure relief without mechanical reclosing. PTFE liners can be specified for enhanced chemical resistance.
Selection Considerations
Selection requires process medium, temperature, operating pressure, burst pressure, DN, flange details, vacuum presence, backpressure, and sensor requirements. After activation, the disk must be replaced and the cause of overpressure investigated.
Description
Certifications
Quality certifications are a guarantee. DonadonSDD has obtained the following certifications.
DonadonSDD provides high-quality products that meet the safety requirements of the systems where they are installed. The organisation and procedures fully comply with the ISO 9001 standard to ensure the utmost quality for our products. Our quality system has also met the stringent requirements of the UNI EN 9100 standard concerning design, development, and manufacture of rupture discs for the aerospace industry.
DonadonSDD products – such as rupture discs, explosion venting panels, and rupture indicators – are certified in compliance with PED directive 2014/68/EU or ATEX directive 2014/34/EU. The rupture discs alone are manufactured, tested, and certified in compliance with ASME directive, Section VIII, Division 1 and carry the relative UD stamp.
DonadonSDD is subject to inspections carried out by 3-A Sanitary Standard, Inc. (3-A SSI) so that our rupture discs can meet the highest sanitary standards.
Upon request, our clients can ask independent inspectors to certify single batches.
