KITO DS/KS-IIA Pressure Relief Valve, Type C 7 N

The KITO DS/KS-IIA is a pressure relief valve designed for installation on storage tank roofs. It incorporates an integrated flame arrester element for protection against ignition, deflagration, and sustained burning. This valve is applied where overpressure venting is required with controlled vapor or gas losses, depending on the set pressure. It is typically installed in conjunction with a separate vacuum relief valve to ensure both overpressure and vacuum protection.

Application Scope

Suitable for gases and vapors in explosion group IIA, with MESG > 0.9 mm and maximum operating temperature of 60 °C. Not recommended for IIB or IIC groups unless compatibility is confirmed by the manufacturer.

Typical applications:

  • Storage tanks for flammable liquids
  • Tank breathing systems with potential hydrocarbon or solvent vapor presence
  • Systems requiring overpressure venting without flame transmission into the tank

Dimensions and Settings

Available in DN 25, DN 50, DN 80, and DN 100. Flanged connections per EN 1092-1 type B1, with ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF as an option. Pressure classes: DN 25 PN 40, DN 50–100 PN 16.

Set pressure range: approx. 2 to 200 mbar, depending on DN, weight loading, and use of body extension for higher settings. Flow rates are specified for air with 40% accumulation above set pressure, per DIN 4119.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body: carbon steel, optional stainless steel 1.4571
  • Seat and spindle: stainless steel 1.4571
  • Sealing: NBR standard, optional Viton, PTFE, EPDM, or metal-to-metal
  • For set pressures ≥100 mbar, only PTFE or metal seals are used

A and K Versions

DS/KS-IIA-…-A: PMMA weather cover.
DS/KS-IIA-…-K: Stainless steel 1.4571 cover with folding mechanism and thermal element.

Certifications

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marking in accordance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

FAQ

Is a vacuum relief valve also required?
Usually yes; the DS/KS-IIA covers overpressure venting only, not vacuum compensation.

Is condensate drainage available?
Optional explosion-proof condensate drain is available.

Description

KITO® DS/KS-IIA-…-A

KITO® DS/KS-IIA-…-K

  • As venting device for installation on storage tanks incorporating an explosion and endurance burning flame arrester element and a PRV to allow for the passage of excess pressure but prevent or minimize the loss of gas/vapours depending on valve adjustment.
  • Usually mounted on top of the tank in conjunction with a vacuum relief valve.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Usually mounted on the top of the tank in conjunction with a vacuum relief valve (see KITO® VS/KS-IIB3-B (type sheet D 11 N)).
  • An explosion proof condensate drain is also available for this model at extra cost.
