Cla-Val 552-01 / 6552-01

Hydraulic pressure relief and sustaining valve for water distribution systems, featuring ANSI flanged connections in 150 / 300 lbs pressure classes. Construction available in ASTM A182 316L stainless steel, suitable for applications requiring corrosion-resistant wetted parts and compliance with industrial standards.

Operation

The valve maintains upstream pressure via a pilot circuit. When inlet pressure exceeds the set point, the main valve opens proportionally, discharging flow to a by-pass, return line, or designated relief location. No electrical supply is required; actuation is fully hydraulic.

Applications

  • Water networks requiring stainless steel construction
  • Pressure sustaining in upstream zones
  • Relief duty in pump stations
  • Back pressure control
  • Unloading of centrifugal pumps

Variants

  • 552-01: Full port, suitable for higher flow rates.
  • 6552-01: Reduced port, for lower flows and improved set point stability.

Selection Criteria

Selection based on set point, relief flow, backpressure, minimum flow, velocity, cavitation risk, and 316L compatibility with process media.

FAQ

Is this a PRV?
No. It does not regulate downstream pressure; it maintains or relieves upstream pressure only.

Is electrical power required?
No. Standard operation is hydraulic via pilot control.

Description

Cla-Val 552-01 and 6552-01 Surge Anticipator Valves are indispensable for protecting pumps, pumping equipment and all applicable pipelines from dangerous pressure surges caused by rapid changes of flow velocity within a pipeline.
