SonFlow Plate Heat Exchangers

SonFlow plate and gasket heat exchangers are utilized in closed and open circuits for heating, cooling, and heat recovery. Selection is based on thermal load, flow rates, permissible pressure drop, inlet/outlet temperatures, plate material, and gasket compatibility. Each unit's nameplate specifies PS, PT, TS, fluids, volume, differential pressure, and clamping dimension; these values must not be exceeded.

Construction and Materials

  • Plates: AISI 304, AISI 316, or titanium, depending on fluid and corrosion.
  • Gaskets: NBR, EPDM, or Viton, in a click-on system without adhesive.
  • Frame: painted steel or stainless steel.
  • Connections: flanges, dairy unions, or threads, depending on series and piping standard.

Operating Conditions

SF/AF series cover applications up to 25 bar and temperatures up to 180 °C, depending on model and frame. For welded SFB series, PS is 25 barg, test pressure is 1.7 × PS, and temperature range is -100 to 185 °C.

Applications

  • HVAC, district heating, geothermal, and data centers.
  • Heat recovery from process water.
  • Machine cooling, marine circuits, and industrial cooling.
  • Food, beverages, chemical processes, sugar, mining, and electronics.

Standards and Documentation

Construction is documented in EN 13445 and, for selected series, ASME Section VIII Div. 1. AF series include AHRI Certified models for Liquid-to-Liquid Heat Exchangers. SonFlow's quality system is ISO 9001:2015 certified until 21/01/2028.

Operation and Maintenance

Startup should be gradual, with venting, avoiding hydraulic shocks and sudden pressure or temperature changes. In steam applications, the cold circuit is activated first, and the steam control valve is opened gradually. Regular checks for leaks, plate cleaning, and gasket inspection are recommended.

FAQ

Do the exchangers have actuators?
No. Temperature regulation is achieved through control valves, three-way valves, circulators, or circuit automation.

When is a gasketed unit selected?
When opening is required for cleaning, inspection, plate replacement, or gasket change due to fouling, corrosion, or new operating conditions.

Description

Depending on the quality of fluids used SonFlow gasketed plate heat exchangers are available in a range of high quality plate materials including stainless steel, titanium and nickel to ensure corrosion resistance.

  • Danish design, technology and quality
  • Very competitive pricing
  • Short lead times
  • Advanced supply chain capability
  • Traceable production processes ensure quality
  • Full monitoring of raw materials

Advantages of SonFlow plate heat exchangers:

  • Expandable – saves time and money
  • High efficiency – due to pressed patterns in the plates and the relative narrow gaps, very high turbulence is achieved at relative low fluid velocity
  • Compact size
  • Close approach temperature – possible to reach close approach temperatures
  • Multiple duties in a single unit – can be built in sections, separated with divider plates or more complicated divider frames
  • Less fouling – smooth plate surface reduces fouling
  • Lower costs
  • Easy to clean – remove the tie bolts and slide back the moveable frame part, and then the plate pack can be inspected and cleaned
