SonFlow – Technical profile of a plate heat exchanger and process pump manufacturer

SonFlow A/S is a Danish manufacturer of plate heat exchangers, with a product range focused on gasketed, Free Flow, sanitary, condenser / evaporator, AHRI-certified and brazed plate heat exchangers. The brand is also associated, in the Philippopoulos S.A. range, with pump categories for in-line, marine, sanitary and wastewater applications.

SonFlow heat exchangers are selected according to the actual thermal duty of the installation. The relevant parameters are not only capacity in kW, but also flow rate, inlet and outlet temperatures, pressure drop, fouling tendency, material compatibility, plate geometry and cleanability.

Gasketed plate heat exchangers are used in HVAC, district heating, district cooling, heat recovery, industrial water, glycol systems and general process heating or cooling. Their main advantage is mechanical access to the plate pack for inspection, cleaning, gasket replacement and possible future capacity extension.

Free Flow heat exchangers are used where the medium contains fibres, particles, suspended solids or has high viscosity. The wider channels reduce the risk of clogging compared with standard plate patterns.

Sanitary versions are used in food, beverage, pharmaceutical and hygienic process applications. Selection must include CIP capability, drainability, surface finish, gasket compatibility and product-contact material traceability.

Brazed plate heat exchangers are compact, gasket-free units for closed-loop systems, HVAC, refrigeration, heat pumps and small process skids. Since they cannot be opened mechanically, fouling risk and chemical cleaning strategy must be considered before selection.
