Indicator & Alarm Unit - Type 40B48 | Gefran

Gefran 40B48 Display & Alarm Unit

The Gefran 40B48 is a microprocessor-based indicator unit, 48×48 mm (1/16 DIN), designed for direct connection to strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, and position potentiometers. This device is not a PID controller; it is used for process variable indication, alarm threshold management, and retransmission of measured values to PLCs or recorders. The front panel is Lexan, rated IP65, with a 4-digit LED display, three function keys, and three output status LEDs.

Measurement Inputs

Input selection is performed via the front panel. Supported inputs include potentiometers (minimum 100 Ω), load cells with autoranging sensitivity 1.5–3.3 mV/V, and strain-gauge pressure sensors. Accuracy is specified at 0.2% f.s. ±1 digit. Sampling time is 120 ms with sensor excitation monitoring, and can be reduced to 15 ms with a corresponding decrease in resolution.

Alarm Outputs & Retransmission

Up to three configurable trip points are available. Outputs can be relay (5 A / 250 V) or logic (0–11 Vdc). Optional 4–20 mA retransmission is available, max load 150 Ω. The digital input (24 Vdc / 4 mA) supports reset, hold, flash, zero, peak value, or latch release. Digital input, retransmission, and the third output are mutually exclusive options.

Configuration & Scaling

The unit supports internal 32-segment linearization for engineering unit display. Scaling for linear signals from strain gauges or potentiometers is set with decimal point selection. Strain gauge calibration is accessible via the instrument menu.

Typical Applications

  • Force measurement in presses and test benches
  • Pressure indication in extrusion lines
  • Weighing applications with load cells
  • Positioners and motorized potentiometers
  • Pressure trips in industrial panels

Operating Conditions & Standards

Power supply: 100–240 Vac ±10% or 11–27 Vac/dc ±10%, max 8 VA. Operating temperature: 0–50 °C; storage: -20–70 °C; humidity: 20–85% non-condensing. Documentation references EN 61000-6-2, EN 61000-6-3, and EN 61010-1.

Overview

48×48 (1/16 DIN) formats manufactured with SMT.

The instruments have a lexan membrane faceplate (guaranteed to IP65) which has 3 keys, a 4 digit display and 3 indicating LED's for the output statuses.

The input signal can be selected from a wide range of sensors:

  • Potentiometer (minimum 100Ω)
  • Load cell with sensitivity autoranging between 1,5 and 3,3mV/V
  • Strain-gauge pressure sensor

The selection is made using the faceplate keys.

A digital input (24Vdc/4mA) is available for resetting, hold, flash, peak handling or releasing latch.

The instruments have a maximum of 3 outputs that can be mechanical relays (5A/250V) or logic outputs (0 to 11Vdc).

One output of 4 to 20mA (max. 150) is available for retransmitting the measured input signal.

The retransmission output, the digital input and the third output are alternative.

The programming of the instrument is made easy by grouping the parameters in function blocks (CFG for the alarm hysteresis, Inp for the inputs, Out for the outputs…) and by a simplified data entry menu.

The configuration can be simplified even further using the PC programming kit made up of a connection cable and a menu guide program that runs under Windows (see data sheet cod. GF_eXpress).

A configurable personal software protection code (password protection) can be used to restrict the levels of editing and displaying the configuration parameters.
