The Cla-Val Model 60-08 Pump Control Valve is a pilot-operated valve designed for installation on the discharge of booster pumps to eliminate pipeline surges caused by the starting and stopping of the pump.
Cla-Val 60-08 – Booster Pump Control Valve
The Cla-Val 60-08 is a pilot-operated valve designed for installation on the discharge side of booster pumps. Its primary function is to mitigate hydraulic transients during pump start-up and shutdown by providing controlled opening and closing via a 4-way solenoid valve.
Operation
The pump starts with the valve in the closed position. Upon actuation of the solenoid, the 60-08 valve opens gradually, allowing line pressure to increase to the operating setpoint. During shutdown, the valve closes slowly while the pump continues to run; a limit switch signals pump stop only after the valve is fully closed. This sequence reduces the risk of water hammer and pressure surges.
Technical Data
- Sizes: DN250–DN400
- Connection: ANSI flanged
- Pressure Classes: ANSI 150 / 300
- Body Materials: ASTM A536 ductile iron, ASTM A216 WCB cast steel, or bronze UNS 87850
- Disc & Diaphragm: Buna-N
- Stem/Spring: Stainless steel
- Media: Water, up to approx. 82 °C
- Solenoid differential pressure: up to 500 psi
Valve Sizing
Sizing is based on pump flow and acceptable pressure loss. Oversizing should be avoided, as it reduces the valve’s ability to control transients during start/stop cycles.
Applications
- Municipal water pumping stations
- Booster stations in distribution networks
- Industrial water systems
- Installations requiring SCADA integration via PC-22D panel
- Lines requiring integrated check function
Maintenance
Provision for drain discharge from the solenoid valve is required, with no backpressure and an air gap. Vertical installation (stem upwards) is recommended. Isolation valves should be installed upstream and downstream for serviceability.
