Tecfluid FLOMAT Insertion Electromagnetic Flowmeter

The Tecfluid FLOMAT is an insertion-type electromagnetic flowmeter designed for conductive liquids in large-diameter pipelines. Measurement is based on Faraday’s law of induction: the voltage at the electrodes is proportional to the mean velocity of the fluid within the magnetic field. The device has no moving parts and does not introduce significant restriction to the pipe cross-section, minimizing pressure drop and maintenance requirements.

Materials and Connections

Sensor available in EN 1.4404 / AISI 316L and PVDF. Head is PVDF; electrodes can be AISI 316L, Hastelloy C, tantalum, or titanium. Connection options: Tecfluid TF flange, 2¼” BSP-F thread, or DN40 PN40 EN 1092-1 flange.

Transmitters and Signals

  • XT5: flow indication, totalizer, 4–20 mA, pulse output, HART (XT5H version)
  • MX4: graphical display, diagnostics, 2 relays, 4–20 mA, pulses, HART or MODBUS RTU RS485
  • XL1: no local display, 4–20 mA and digital output for pulses or alarm

Installation Considerations

Pipe must remain full at all times. Sensor should not be installed at the pipe’s top or bottom to avoid air pockets and sedimentation. Downstream: minimum 5 × DN straight run; upstream requirements depend on bends, valves, or expansions and may reach 80 × DN.

Applications

Used in water supply, water treatment, HVAC, food and beverage, pipeline leakage detection, and chemical flow monitoring, provided the medium meets the conductivity requirement.
