KITO H 42 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 42 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor with threaded connections, designed for installation in piping connected to vessels or process equipment handling flammable gases and liquid vapors. Reference types: KITO RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2 and RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max. operating pressure: 1.2 bar abs.
  • Max. operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Max. distance to potential ignition source: 50 × internal pipe diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical, any orientation
  • Stabilized burning: BT ≤ 6.0 min

Applications

Used in small vapor recovery lines, tank vent lines, process venting, laboratory skids, and piping requiring protection up to group IIB3. Compared to IIA versions, the H 42 N is selected for mixtures with lower MESG and stricter flame quenching requirements.

Connections and Dimensions

Threaded connections from G 1/8" to G 2". For G 1/8", G 1/4", G 3/8": D 90 mm, L 152 mm, weight 4.0 kg. For G 1/2" to G 1": L 257 mm or L1 290 mm. For G 1¼" to G 2": D 120 mm, L 166 mm or L1 315 mm, weight 6.5 kg.

Materials and Monitoring

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless steel 1.4571
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing / grid: 1.4301 / 1.4310 or 1.4571 / 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: A2 or A4
  • Temperature sensor: PT100, 1/4" connection, 1.4571, not for G 1/8" to G 3/8"

Selection Considerations

Temperature detection for stabilized burning requires a sensor on each hazardous side. Selection must consider explosion group, L/D ratio, pressure, temperature, flow, pressure drop, and potential element contamination. Certified to EN ISO 16852, CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2

KITO® RG-Def-IIB3-…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • All sizes are tested against “stabilized burning” and withstand this up to a max. burn time BT ≤ 6.0 min.
  • To detect a “stabilized burning” a thermocouple must be installed at each endangered side.
  • Mounting is acceptable in any position, in horizontal as well as in vertical pipes.
