KITO H 39 N In-line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 39 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor designed for pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors. It is intended for the protection of vessels, process equipment, and pipeline sections where ignition sources may be present on either side of the device. Reference type: KITO EFA-Def0-IIB3-…/…-1.2, with -T / -TT versions featuring temperature sensors.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIB3, MESG ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Operating pressure: up to 1.2 bar abs.
  • Operating temperature: up to 60 °C
  • Max. ignition source distance: 50 × pipe internal diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100, under atmospheric conditions

Applications

H 39 N is selected for vapor recovery lines, tank vents, chemical process off-gas, and piping with mixtures classified up to IIB3. Compared to IIA series, selection is based on lower MESG and stricter flame quenching requirements.

Connections and Sizes

Range covers NG 65 to NG 800, with connections DN 25 to DN 400. Flanges per EN 1092-1 type B1 include PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10 depending on diameter. ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF available as option, 1" to 16".

Construction Materials

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrestor element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO grid: 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • PT100: 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

FAQ

When is PT100 required?
Required when process design specifies thermal load detection and interlock for flow shutdown or inerting. With a single PT100, the sensor is installed on the side where combustion is expected.

Applicable standard?
Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIB3-…/…-1.2

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIB3-…/…-1.2-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.2 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
