KITO H 36 N In-Line Deflagration Flame Arrester

The KITO H 36 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrester designed for pipelines conveying flammable gases or vapors. It is used to protect vessels, process equipment, and pipeline sections from flame transmission within piping systems. Reference types include KITO EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X10 and EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X10-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1 to IIA, MESG > 0.9 mm
  • Operating pressure: 1.5 bar abs. up to NG 65, 1.2 bar abs. from NG 100
  • Operating temperature: up to 100 °C
  • Max ignition source distance: 50 × internal pipe diameter
  • Installation: horizontal or vertical piping
  • Short-time burning: tBT = 1.0 min with one or two PT100 sensors, under atmospheric conditions

Industrial Applications

H 36 N is applied in vapor recovery, tank venting, off-gas lines, and process piping where bidirectional protection for group IIA and temperatures up to 100 °C is required. Selection is based on operating temperature exceeding 60 °C limits of other variants, while maintaining the requirement for a deflagration flame arrester in piping.

Dimensions and Connections

Range covers NG 65 to NG 600, with DN 25 to DN 300. EN flange connections include PN 40, PN 16, and PN 10, depending on diameter. ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF flanged connection is also available.

Materials and Sealing

  • Body: cast steel 1.0619 or cast stainless 1.4408
  • Gasket: HD 3822 or PTFE
  • Flame arrester element: fully replaceable
  • Casing: galvanized steel up to NG 400 or stainless 1.4571 / 1.4581
  • KITO grid: stainless 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Bolts/nuts: galvanized steel or A2
  • Sensor: PT100, 3/8" connection, material 1.4571

FAQ

When is PT100 installed?
Required for thermal load monitoring and interlock activation. With one sensor, installation is on the side where combustion is expected.

Which certification applies?
Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X10

KITO® EFA-Def0-IIA-…/…-…-X10-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion groups IIA1 to IIA with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) > 0.9 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.5 bar abs. up to NG 65, pmax = 1.2 bar abs. from NG 100 and an operating temperature of 100 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • The installation of the deflagration flame arrester into horizontal and vertical pipes is permissible.
  • When equipped with one or two temperature sensors, the devices are protected under atmospheric conditions against a short time burning by a burning time tBT = 1.0 min.
  • If only one temperature sensor, then it is to be placed on the device side where a burning could be expected.
