KITO H 40.1 N In-line Deflagration Flame Arrestor

The KITO H 40.1 N is a bidirectional in-line deflagration flame arrestor, endurance burning proof, designed for installation in piping systems conveying flammable gases or vapors of flammable liquids. Reference types: KITO RG-Def-I-…-1.3 and RG-Def-I-…-1.3-T / -TT.

Operating Limits

  • Explosion group: IIA1, MESG ≥ 1.14 mm
  • Maximum operating pressure: 1.3 bar abs.
  • Maximum operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Maximum ignition source distance: 50 × internal pipe diameter
  • Installation: any orientation, horizontal or vertical piping
  • Stabilized burning: unlimited endurance, endurance burn proof

Applications

Used in small vent lines, vapor recovery, vessel connections, laboratory or skid-mounted processes, and gas piping where ignition may occur on either side. Selected over short-time burning variants when process risk assessment does not exclude prolonged stabilized burning at the element.

Connections and Construction

Threaded connections from G 1/8" to G 2". Standard body material is carbon steel; optional stainless steel 1.4571. Gaskets: HD 3822 or PTFE. The flame arrestor element is fully replaceable. KITO casing/grid standard: 1.4301 / 1.4310, optional 1.4571 / 1.4571. Bolting: A2 or A4.

Temperature Monitoring

-T / -TT versions accept PT100 sensor with 1/4" 1.4571 connection. Not available for G 1/8" to G 3/8" sizes. Temperature monitoring is used for stabilized burning detection and interlock activation (e.g., flow isolation or inerting).

Selection and Certification

Selection must consider explosion group, L/D ratio, pressure, temperature, flow rate, pressure drop, and contamination by condensate or solids. Flow curves are provided for air at ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, 273 K. Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852. CE marked per ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® RG-Def-I-…-1.3

KITO® RG-Def-I-…-1.3-T (-TT)

  • For installation into pipes to the protection of vessels and components against deflagration of flammable liquids and gases.
  • Approved for all substances of explosion group IIA1 (old: I) with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 1.14 mm.
  • Bi-directionally working in pipes, whereby an operating pressure of 1.3 bar abs. and an operating temperature of 60 °C must not be exceeded.
  • The distance between a potential ignition source and the flame arrester must not exceed 50 times the inner pipe diameter.
  • All sizes are tested against “stabilized burning” and withstand this for indefinite time (endurance burn).
  • To detect a “stabilized burning” a thermocouple can be in-stalled at each endangered side.
  • Mounting is acceptable in any position, in horizontal as well as in vertical pipes.
