Toraflex S50 / S25 Axial Expansion Joints – Comeval

Metallic axial expansion compensators for rigid piping systems, engineered to absorb axial thermal movement. Construction features an Omega-type convoluted bellows and internal sleeve to prevent direct flow contact with the corrugated surface. Installation is unidirectional and must follow the indicated flow arrow.

Variants

  • S50: Flanged, PN16, DN32–DN600, EN 1092-1 PN16 flanges, supplied with tie rods as standard.
  • S25: Butt-weld ends (BW), PN10, DN20–DN300, no tie rods included.
  • Main materials: SS304 for bellows and internal sleeve; end connections in carbon steel or stainless steel depending on variant.

Operating Conditions & Media

Compatible with suitable liquids and inert gases per PED 2014/68/EU. Typical applications: steam, HVAC, compressed air, lubrication circuits, process lines, and gas networks. Reference temperature range: -10 to +300 °C, with pressure derating per P/T curve.

Selection & Installation

Selection is not based solely on DN and PN. The following must be verified:

  • Axial pipe movement
  • Effective cross-section and reaction force
  • Anchoring points and guides
  • Operating temperature differential
  • Material compatibility with process fluid

Each compensator must be installed between fixed points. For S50, tie rods absorb part of the pressure thrust; for S25, anchors must be sized for the full reaction force.

Standards & Compliance

Design per EJMA 9th Edition, marking EN 19, pressure testing EN 12266-1, PED 2014/68/EU compliance. ATEX 2014/34/EU declaration available for non-electrical equipment, Group II Category 2.

FAQ

Are actuators required?
No. The device operates passively, responding to axial pipe movement.

How is leak tightness ensured?
For S50 flanged units, correct gasket selection and uniform bolt tightening are essential. Body leakage requires immediate replacement.

Description

Metal flexible unions used on rigid pipe work systems to absorb axial thermal movements. They consist of a corrugated Omega shaped bellow, with welded ends (S25) or flanged ends (S50), and an internal sleeve, which protects the bellow from wear and turbulences. Additionally S50 type incorporates limit rods as standard.

Specification of the range:

Diverse design combinations by end connections (flanged, BW), materials of construction, nominal size range (DN20-DN600), design pressure range (PN10-16) and other versions.

Other typical denominations:

Applications: HVAC, steam, gases, lubrication, compressed air, process, etc.
