This type of Expansion Joint is made up of one single bellows equipped with fixed flanges.
Macoga MFT Axial Expansion Joints
Macoga MFT are metallic axial expansion joints of the single tied type, featuring a single bellows, fixed flanges, and tie rod assemblies. The welded-end variant is designated as MWT.
Operation
Tie rods absorb the pressure thrust, preventing the unit from acting as an unrestrained axial compensator. The MWT/MFT series is primarily used for axial movement and limited lateral displacement.
Permitted movements:
- axial movement,
- limited lateral movement,
- angular movement only with two tie rods,
- no multi-plane angular movement.
Typical Applications
Suitable for industrial piping systems requiring flanged connections and pressure thrust control:
- steam and condensate lines,
- hot water and thermal oil,
- auxiliary process circuits,
- compressed air and inert gases,
- locations requiring disassembly without pipe cutting.
Selection is based on DN, PN/class of flange, temperature, axial stroke, lateral offset, operating cycles, bellows material, gasket type, and media compatibility.
MFT vs MWT
- MFT: fixed flanges, suitable for flanged piping classes.
- MWT: welding ends, for permanent welded connections.
- Both types feature a single bellows and tie rods for pressure thrust restraint.
Installation and Inspection
MFT joints are not intended for correcting misalignment. Prior to installation, verify nameplate data, flow direction (if internal sleeve is present), correct gasket positioning, and absence of foreign objects in the convolutions.
Remove yellow transport bars before pressure testing. Hydraulic tests require chloride-free water. Maintenance checks include leakage, pressure loss, vibration, corrosion, loose tie rods, and condition of guides/anchors.
