KITO B8N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrester

KITO® VEH-4-IIB3 / VEH-5-IIB3 type B8N is a terminal venting device for small storage tanks and breather pipe ends. Designed for flammable liquids of explosion group IIB3 with NSW/MESG ≥ 0.65 mm and maximum operating temperature 60 °C. Provides protection against explosive flame transmission into the tank; not classified as short-time or endurance burning type.

Applications

  • Small flammable liquid storage tanks
  • Tank covers
  • Breather/ventilation pipe ends
  • Atmospheric venting of stored media vapors

Installation in enclosed spaces is not permitted. The device allows free gas discharge to atmosphere and restricts flame ingress to the tank.

Sizes and Connections

  • VEH-4-IIB3: G ½" / DN 15 PN 40, G ¾" / DN 20 PN 40
  • VEH-5-IIB3: G 1" / DN 25 PN 40, G 1¼" / DN 32 PN 40
  • Standard: threaded connection
  • Optional: flange EN 1092-1 type A or ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF

Construction Materials

Standard body: carbon steel; optional: stainless 1.4571. The flame arrester element is fully replaceable. Mesh: stainless 1.4310 or optional 1.4571. Weather hood: PMMA.

Sizing

Selection is based on required breathing capacity, allowable pressure drop, gas density, and explosion group. Flow curves are provided for air ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K; density correction is required for other gases.

FAQ

Is it a P/V valve?
No. It does not provide set pressure and has no actuator.

When to select B8N?
For small sizes DN 15–32, when a terminal flame arrester for group IIB3 is required.

Standards?
Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852 and CE marking according to ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® VEH-4-IIB3-…

KITO® VEH-5-IIB3-…

  • As breather/venting safety device for small tank facilities, explosion proof for flammable fluids of explosion group IIB3 with a gap width (NSW) ≥ 0.65 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Structure on storage tanks, tank covers or at the end of ventilation pipes.
  • The end armature prevents passage of flame into the tank.
  • The gases enter the storage medium unimpeded into the atmosphere.
