KITO B9N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrestor

The KITO® VND-…-IIB3 type B9N is a terminal venting device for storage tanks, manway covers, and breathing lines. It incorporates a flame arrestor element to prevent explosive flame transmission into the tank or pipeline. Not intended for installation in enclosed spaces.

Operating Range

  • Explosion group: IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Max operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Function: unrestricted tank breathing
  • Protection: deflagration proof; not suitable for short-time or endurance burning

The device allows gas venting to atmosphere and air intake into the tank, reducing vacuum risk. It does not provide set pressure and does not replace a pressure/vacuum relief valve where controlled tank protection is required.

Dimensions and Connection

Available in DN 25 to DN 300. DN 25–40: PN 40; DN 50–150: PN 16; DN 200–300: PN 10. Standard connection: EN 1092-1 type B1 flange; optional ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF.

Materials of Construction

  • Body: carbon steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Shell: carbon steel or stainless 1.4571
  • Mesh: 1.4310 or 1.4571
  • Weather hood: stainless steel
  • Flame arrestor element: non-replaceable

Sizing and Maintenance

DN selection is based on required breathing capacity, allowable pressure drop, and gas density. Flow curves are provided for air at ρ = 1.29 kg/m³, T = 273 K, atmospheric pressure; density correction is required for other gases.

Standards and Certification

Type examination certificate per EN ISO 16852; marking in accordance with ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Description

KITO® VND-…-IIB3

  • As breather/venting safety device incorporating an explosion proof flame arrester element for installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or breather pipes.
  • The breather allows the unimpeded flow of gases out to atmosphere and air into the tank/pipe thereby preventing vacuum locks whilst ensuring provision of a permanent and reliable protection against any flashback into the tank/pipe.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
