Designed to protect pipelines from air lock and vacuum collapse, the CLA-VAL Model 33ATD Air Release and Vacuum Breaker Valve eliminates air and prevents vacuum formations in pipelines. A large venting orifice and large float clearances freely exhaust or admit air during pipeline filling or draining.
Cla-Val 33ATD with Throttling Device
The Cla-Val 33ATD is a combined air release and vacuum breaker valve for water pipelines. It discharges air during filling, admits air during draining, and continuously releases small air volumes under pressurized operation.
Throttling Device
The integrated throttling device limits the air discharge rate, reducing the risk of rapid water column return and hydraulic shock (water hammer).
Technical Specifications
- Body: Ductile iron
- Connection: NPT or flanged
- Standard: ANSI
- Pressure classes: 150 lbs / 300 lbs
- Large air release orifice
- Generous float clearances for unrestricted air intake/discharge
Applications
- Water transmission pipelines
- Potable water distribution networks
- High points in piping systems
- Filling/draining lines
- Locations prone to air lock or vacuum collapse
Difference from Cla-Val 33A
The 33A provides basic combined air release and vacuum breaking. The 33ATD adds throttling on air discharge, suitable where uncontrolled air expulsion may cause hydraulic shock.
FAQ
When is it selected?
For pipelines requiring controlled air discharge velocity.
Does it protect against vacuum?
Yes, by admitting air during draining or negative pressure events.
What factors are considered in selection?
ANSI class, connection type, air flow rate, hydraulic profile, and filling/draining scenarios.
