Ballast water systems

Ships need ballast water to improve their stability and balance their load; this water is carried in tanks, the double bottom, the fore and aft peak tanks and side spaces.

According to the 2004 International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments approved by the IMO (International Maritime Organization), mechanical, physical and chemical processes should be used to treat ballast water.

Butterfly valves are generally used for ballast tanks; ARI can supply an extensive array of products for ballast water treatment.
