ADCA ADCATherm PWHU – Preassembled Steam Water Heating Unit

The PWHU is a skid-mounted unit for instantaneous hot water production, utilizing steam as the primary medium and water as the secondary circuit. It is applied in industrial processes, CIP, HVAC, and consumption points requiring controlled water temperature without a local boiler.

Basic Operation

Steam supply is regulated by an ADCATrol globe control valve, with pneumatic or electric actuator and corresponding positioner. Water temperature is measured on the secondary side using a Pt100 sensor in a thermowell.

Exchanger and Materials

The unit can be equipped with:

  • ADCATherm PAT plate heat exchanger,
  • ADCATherm ST shell & tube exchanger,
  • stainless steel secondary piping,
  • carbon steel on the primary side,
  • stainless steel frame or primary side upon request.

Operating Limits

For versions with PAT plate exchanger, indicative limits are:

  • saturated steam primary: up to 9 bar,
  • secondary water: up to 9 bar,
  • operating temperature with EPDM-HT: up to 180 °C,
  • piping: PN16.

Flanges can be EN 1092-1 PN16 or ASME B16.5 Class 150.

Optional Assemblies

  • moisture separator with steam trap station,
  • independent high limit with fail-safe steam isolation,
  • pressure reduction set with safety valve,
  • ADCAMat pump trap for condensate drainage,
  • recirculation pump and bypass,
  • primary isolation valves with bellows seal,
  • buffer vessel for semi-instantaneous operation.

Control and Automation

The panel may include process controllers, analog outputs, dry contacts, remote setpoint, or PLC with HMI and data logging. Typical features: 230 V AC, control voltage 24 V DC, panel IP65, and pneumatic supply at least 6 bar.

FAQ

When is a pump trap needed?
When condensate pressure varies and a simple steam trap does not ensure stable drainage.

Does the unit always carry CE marking?
Not as a standard product; conformity assessment and CE marking are project-specific.
