GESTRA MF – Level Measurement Vessel
The GESTRA MF is an external measurement cylinder for boilers, tanks, and hot water systems where direct electrode installation on the shell is impractical or unsuitable for the process. It hydraulically connects to the vessel, creating a protected chamber for a level electrode or transmitter.
Process Operation
The cylinder maintains a representative level relative to the boiler or tank. Its internal volume aids in measurement stabilization and limits liquid flashing near the sensor, reducing false level readings under varying steam loads.
Technical Specifications
- Types: MF 2061 S and MF 2062 S.
- Materials: welded steel, 1.4571 stainless, P235GH or 16Mo3 per coding.
- Connections: PN flanges with B1 form per EN 1092-1 or G threads.
- Pressure/Temperature: PN40 up to 28 bar / 238 °C, PN63 up to 51 bar / 275 °C, PN160 up to 75 bar / 290 °C or 100 bar / 311 °C.
- Connection center distances: 300–1800 mm, per arrangement.
Selection and Installation
Selection is based on operating pressure, temperature, water conductivity, electrode type, material, flange PN, connection diameter to boiler, and required center-to-center distance. External level chambers should include drainage and periodic flushing procedures for connecting lines, especially when measurement is part of a low-level safety circuit.
Standards / Compliance
The MF complies with PED 2014/68/EU for Group 2 fluids. Documentation references AD 2000 and final PED inspection, with TÜV where required. For ATEX, it is not considered to have an inherent ignition source; static charge management and potential leaks are evaluated by the installation manufacturer.
FAQ
Does it measure level directly?
No. It houses the electrode or transmitter that performs the measurement.
When is a stainless version chosen?
In corrosive water, condensates with increased chemical stress, or process purity requirements.
