Inductive Rupture Disc Indicator NAM 05 DonadonSDD

The NAM 05 is an inductive proximity sensor designed for electrical confirmation of rupture disc or explosion vent panel activation. It is installed downstream of the pressure relief device and is used when a status signal must be transmitted to PLC, DCS, SIS, or alarm panels via an intrinsic safety circuit.

Operating Principle

The system consists of:

  • an inductive proximity sensor,
  • a metallic target supplied with the rupture disc or vent panel.

Upon disc or panel activation, the target shifts position, causing the sensor to change state. Replacement kits include a new target, ensuring indication functionality is restored during relief device replacement.

ATEX Certification and Installation

The NAM 05 is certified for ATEX II 1G Ex ia IIC T6 and ATEX II 1D Ex iaD 20 T108°C. Installation in zones 0, 20, 1, 21, 2, 22 depends on the intrinsic safety barrier type. With Ex ia barriers, zones 0/20 and above are covered; with Ex ib, use is limited to zones 1/21 and 2/22. Installation must comply with EN 60079-14.

Industrial Applications

Inductive indicators are specified for process lines, dust collectors, silos, reactors, and pressure vessels where electrical confirmation of venting is required. Suitable for low-pressure applications, possible backpressure, and ATEX-classified areas, provided wiring and barriers match zone classification.

FAQ

Is replacement required after activation?
The sensor remains in place. The disc or panel is replaced along with a new target.

Can it be used with explosion vent panels?
Yes, compatible with PS/C and PS/R panels.

Does it replace pressure relief sizing calculations?
No. It only provides a status signal to the control or safety system.

Description

NAM05

NAM 05 inductive rupture alarm systems are recommended for installation on rupture discs and explosion vent panels.

The NAM 05 indicator is composed of:

an inductive proximity sensor installed downstream the disc or panel

a target supplied with the disc or panel

When the disc opens, the target is moved and the sensor sends a signal to the plant safety system. The discs or panels are supplied with a new target.

NAM 05 is an intrinsic safety device certified:

ATEX II 1G Ex ia IIC T6

ATEX II 1D Ex iaD 20 T 108°C

It can therefore may be used in locations where potentially explosive atmospheres are present (classified zones 0, 20, 1, 21, 2, 22 according to European Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX)).

Zone installation also depends on barrier type:

Ex ib barrier zone 1; 21; 2; 22

NAM 05 is normally supplied with 2m bipolar cable that must be connected to the plant’s safety system through an intrinsic safety barrier.
