Cla-Val Models 131-73 and 631-73 Electronic Interface Control Valves are well suited for applications where the line pressure is low or the media is aggressive. Independent air pressure is used to operate the valve. The pilot system applies or relieves pressure to either side of the diaphragm, causing the valve to open, close or modulate as desired. The optional VC-22D Electronic Controller is easily programmed to modulate the valve for precise control of flow, pressure, tank level or valve position.
Cla-Val 131-73 / 631-73 – Electronic Interface Control Valve
The Cla-Val 131-73 and 631-73 are diaphragm actuated control valves with electronic interface, designed for industrial applications where line pressure is insufficient or the process fluid is unsuitable for direct pilot operation. Actuation is achieved via independent air supply, applied or vented to the diaphragm chambers for open, close, or modulating control. This configuration isolates the pilot system from the process media, supporting use with aggressive or contaminated fluids.
Operation
The pilot system enables control independent of pipeline pressure. With the optional VC-22D controller, the valve can regulate:
- line pressure
- flow rate
- tank level
- valve position
The main valve remains hydraulically/pneumatically actuated; the electronic signal manages the pilot system for process control integration.
131-73 vs 631-73
The 131-73 uses a full-port main valve, selected when full nominal bore is required for flow or process reasons.
The 631-73 is based on a reduced-port main valve, applied when sizing calculations indicate a smaller effective area than the pipeline diameter, improving control stability at lower flow rates.
Typical Applications
- industrial water distribution
- systems with low available pressure
- aggressive or contaminated fluids
- remote control via PLC/SCADA
- auxiliary circuit pressure regulation
- tank and buffer vessel level control
Construction and Options
Available with flanged connections, ANSI standard, pressure classes 150 or 300 lbs. Body materials: ductile iron, ASTM A216 WCB, or bronze. Sealing options depend on media compatibility and temperature range.
Selection Criteria
Selection should be based on flow rate, available differential pressure, media compatibility, required fail position, available air supply, and control loop response speed.
FAQ
When is independent air supply required?
When line pressure is insufficient or the process fluid should not enter the pilot circuit.
Is it suitable for modulating control?
