AKO Series Heating Cables with Silicone Insulation

AKO series heating cables are specified for frost protection and temperature maintenance in refrigeration and industrial process installations. Typical applications include evaporator drain lines, cold storage machinery, and locations where condensation or ice formation may obstruct drainage or impact equipment operation. The cables are suitable for use in environments with potential exposure to low temperatures and require compatibility with process fluids and installation substrates.

Technical Specifications

  • Insulation: Silicone
  • Supply Voltage: 230 V AC
  • Minimum Installation Temperature: -40 °C
  • Minimum Bending Radius: 10 mm at -40 °C
  • Max. Exposure Temperature (de-energized): 180 °C
  • Cold lead length: 1,000 mm (refer to installation manual)

Available Versions

Product range includes 50 W/m cables with heated lengths from 1 m to 8 m (50–400 W total), codes AKO-71370 to AKO-71379. Manual also lists 15 W/m variants, codes AKO-71381 to AKO-71389, with heated lengths from 1.3 m to 8 m. Selection depends on required heat load and installation length.

Selection and Installation Guidelines

Selection criteria:

  • Required heat output per meter
  • Heated section length
  • Available 230 V supply
  • Application type: evaporator drain, cold room, refrigeration unit
  • Ambient conditions and chemical compatibility with insulation

Cables must not be cut, crossed, or allowed to contact themselves. Avoid sharp edges, crushing, twisting, and mechanical stress. Grounding is required for metallic pipe installations.

Electrical Protection and Maintenance

Each heating circuit must be supplied via a dedicated line with appropriate protection and a 30 mA RCD. Operation should be interlocked with the defrost cycle; maximum energization time is 30 minutes. Damaged cables must be replaced, not repaired.

FAQ

Can the cable be cut on site?
No. Length must be selected according to available codes.

Typical applications?
Evaporator drains and refrigeration systems with electric defrost.

What maintenance is required?
Periodic inspection of electrical protection and circuit operation.
