AKO Parallel Constant Power Heating Cables

AKO constant power cables are parallel-type heating elements designed to deliver a fixed wattage per meter, independent of the final cut length, provided cutting occurs at designated contact points. The internal structure consists of a Ni-Cr heating conductor wound around two insulated supply conductors, forming parallel resistive paths along the cable length. This configuration ensures uniform heat output and simplifies circuit design for industrial applications.

Variants and Technical Limits

  • PVC 2 x 1.5 mm²: AKO-5231, 10 W/m at 230 V; AKO-1212, 20 W/m at 230 V. Max exposure temperature (de-energized): 70°C. Outer dimensions: 9 x 6 mm. Minimum bending radius: 20 mm at -15°C.
  • Silicone 2 x 0.75 mm²: 30, 40, or 65 W/m. Max exposure temperature: 180°C. Minimum bending radius: 10 mm at -40°C.
  • Silicone 2 x 1.5 mm²: AKO-712545, 50 W/m at 230 V. Suitable for refrigeration and construction applications.
  • Silicone with Metal Braid: AKO-52341, 30 W/m at 230 V. Braid allows for grounding integration.

Applications

Used in industrial and commercial refrigeration to prevent ice formation in drains, door frames, and surfaces prone to condensation. PVC variants are primarily installed in embedded applications such as cold room floors or for frost protection above/below insulation layers.

Selection and Installation

Selection is based on required W/m, surface temperature, grounding requirements, maximum circuit length, and insulation type. Connection, termination, and sealing require dedicated AKO kits. Documentation references UNE 21.155 and CEI 800 standards, with dielectric strength testing at 1500 V~.

FAQ

Is this a self-regulating cable?
No. Power per meter remains constant; external thermostat or control panel is required.

Can it be cut on site?
Yes, but only at specified contact intervals.

Is fluid contact required?
No. Cable is applied to surfaces, piping, floors, or refrigeration system components.
