KITO B6.1N – Vent Cap with Flame Arrestor and Temperature Sensor

The KITO® VH-…-IIB3-T is a terminal venting device for storage tanks, manway covers, and breathing lines. It integrates a flame arrestor element for deflagration and short-term stabilized burning, equipped with a temperature sensor for detection of stabilized burning with a minimum duration of 1 minute.

Operating Range

  • Explosion group: IIB3
  • MESG: ≥ 0.65 mm
  • Maximum operating temperature: 60 °C
  • Installation: Only in ventilated areas, not suitable for enclosed spaces
  • Operation: Passive venting, no pressure control actuator

The device allows gas discharge to atmosphere and air intake into the tank, reducing vacuum lock risk. It does not replace a pressure/vacuum relief valve where a defined set pressure is required.

Dimensions and Connections

B6.1N covers large venting capacities, available in sizes DN 50 to DN 800. DN 50–150 are supplied in PN 16, DN 200–800 in PN 10. Standard connection is EN 1092-1 type B1 flange, with ASME B16.5 Class 150 RF as an option.

Size Selection

DN selection is based on required breathing flow, permissible pressure drop, and gas density. Flow curves are provided for air (ρ = 1.29 kg/m³ at 273 K, atmospheric pressure); density correction applies for other gases.

Description

KITO® VH-…-IIB3-T

  • As breather/venting safety device incorporating an explosion and short-time burn proof flame arrester element for installation on top of storage tanks, tank access covers or breather pipes.
  • The breather allows the unimpeded flow of gases out to atmosphere and air into the tank/pipe thereby preventing vacuum locks whilst ensuring provision of a permanent and reliable protection against any flashback into the tank/pipe.
  • This device is not permitted to be installed in enclosed areas.
  • Approved for all materials of the explosion group IIB3 with a maximum experimental safe gap (MESG) ≥ 0.65 mm and an maximum operating temperature of 60 °C.
  • Design with temperature sensor, to detect a “stabilized burning” (burn time 1 minute).
