The Cla-Val 36 Series Air and Vacuum Valve is a multipurpose valve that combines the operation of both the Model 34 Air Release Valve and Model 35 Air and Vacuum Valve. It functions to exhaust large quantities of air in the pipeline during the filling cycle and to admit air, as necessary, to prevent a potentially dangerous vacuum from forming when being emptied either intentionally or as a result of pipeline breakage.
Cla-Val Series 36 Combination Air Valve
The Cla-Val Series 36 is a combination air valve designed for water pipelines. It integrates air release and air & vacuum functions, enabling air discharge under pressure, large volume air expulsion during filling, and air intake during pipeline draining.
Operation
The large orifice allows rapid air discharge during filling and air intake under vacuum conditions. The small orifice provides continuous release of entrapped air while the pipeline is pressurized, minimizing air pockets and associated flow restrictions.
Technical Data
- Type: Combination air valve
- Media: Clean water
- Connection: NPT or flanged
- Standard: ANSI
- Functions: Air release, air discharge, vacuum protection
- Installation: Vertical, at pipeline high points
- Isolation valve, vented chamber, and drainage recommended
Applications
- Potable water networks
- Water transmission pipelines
- Pumping stations
- Pipeline high points
- Filling and draining lines
Selection Criteria
Series 36 is specified when all three air management functions are required in a single body. Sizing is based on filling/draining flow rates, operating pressure, hydraulic profile, and allowable vacuum conditions. Material and sealing options should be selected according to media compatibility and site conditions.
FAQ
How does it differ from Series 34?
Series 34 only vents small air volumes under pressure; no vacuum intake.
How does it differ from Series 35?
Series 35 does not provide continuous air release under pressure.
Where is it installed?
At pipeline summits and critical filling/draining points.
