Valfonta S2 – Inlet Pressure Retaining Valve

The Valfonta S2 is a self-acting pressure relief valve, fully balanced, designed to maintain upstream pressure. When the inlet pressure exceeds the set point, the valve opens proportionally. The forces from upstream/downstream pressures are balanced on the plug, distinguishing it from simpler direct-acting versions.

Fluids and Temperature

The S2 is applicable for steam, compressed air, neutral gases, and liquids. For gases and liquids, the range is -10 to 80°C, while for steam or hot fluids, a condensate pot arrangement is used to protect the diaphragm. Available seals: NBR, EPDM, FKM, PEEK, PTFE, and PTFE+graphite.

Installation

The valve is installed in horizontal piping, with flow according to the body arrow. Upstream filter, inlet gauge, and isolation for maintenance are recommended. An external control line is required for steam and liquids above 125°C, connected to the upstream line approximately 1 m or at least 10×DN away.

Documentation references PED 2014/68/EU, ATEX II 2 GD for suitable zones, and ISO 9001:2015. The S2 is not a safety valve; where equipment protection from overpressure is required, a separate safety device is installed.
