Valfonta – Technical profile of a pressure reducing, pressure sustaining and safety valve manufacturer

Valfonta is a Spanish manufacturer of pressure control valves for steam, gases, liquids and industrial utilities. Its product range includes pressure reducing valves, pressure sustaining valves, pressure relief valves, safety valves and pneumatic control valves.

The range represented through Philippopoulos S.A. includes:

Pressure reducing valves control downstream pressure. They must be selected according to inlet pressure, required outlet pressure, minimum and maximum flow, fluid, temperature, pressure reduction ratio and stability at low flow. In steam systems, upstream strainers, separators, bypass, gauges and downstream safety valves should be considered.

Valfonta M1 and M2-type regulators use external or internal pressure sensing depending on design. Impulse lines must be installed correctly, otherwise the valve may hunt, respond slowly or control the wrong pressure point.

Pressure sustaining valves maintain upstream pressure by opening when the upstream pressure exceeds the set value. Relief valves also protect against excessive upstream pressure, but their role must be distinguished from certified safety valves.

Safety valves are used for overpressure protection of vessels, boilers, piping and skids. They must be sized according to the relief scenario, not by line size. Required data include set pressure, protected equipment design pressure, relieving capacity, medium, temperature, back pressure and discharge arrangement.

Control valves with pneumatic actuators are selected differently from self-acting regulators. They require Cv / Kv calculation, actuator sizing, fail position, leakage class and possible cavitation, flashing or noise checks.
