Sanitary
Sanitary steam traps are used in food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and aseptic process systems where condensate must be removed without retention areas and with materials suitable for cleaning and sterilization. This category includes thermostatic diaphragm steam traps for SIP/CIP duty, such as Gestra SMK, and sanitary float traps including Mankenberg KA 2, KA 3, and KA 6.
Selection is based on condensate load, differential pressure, operating temperature, back pressure, flow direction, drainage requirement, and the acceptable sealing arrangement. Thermostatic diaphragm traps are applied where rapid response to temperature or phase change is required and where low dead space is important. Float traps are used where continuous condensate discharge is required without external power and with limited sensitivity to pressure fluctuation or back pressure.
Available versions include stainless steel grades 1.4404 / 316L, 1.4435, 1.4571, ASTM A182 316L, ASTM A276 316L, and ASTM A351 CF8M, depending on series and installation point. End connections include clamp, socket weld, and butt weld; selected versions are also available with EN 1092-1 or ASME B16.5 flanges and NPT threaded connections. Pressure ratings include PN10, PN16, and applications up to 60 bar, with temperature limits up to 190 °C for selected float traps or up to 100 °C for versions intended for liquids and gases.
