SANCONTROL by SANDER MARINE is an integrated Remote Control Valve System (RCVS) designed for the control and management of fluid flow in marine and shipboard piping systems.
The system provides remote operation of valves used in ballast, bilge, fuel oil, cargo and other auxiliary piping systems. Valves can be operated by SANTORQUE hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic or electric actuators, depending on the requirements of the installation.
Valve position control and feedback
Depending on the application, valve status can be monitored by:
-
limit switches providing OPEN / CLOSED indication
-
positioners providing continuous valve position feedback from 0 to 100%
This allows the control system to continuously monitor the actual operating status of remotely controlled valves.
Designed for demanding marine environments
SANCONTROL is designed for installation in different areas of a vessel and for operation under demanding environmental conditions.
According to SANDER MARINE, the system can be configured for operating conditions ranging from −55°C on open deck to +55°C in the engine room, as well as for hazardous atmospheres. IP68 submerged installation inside a tank is also possible depending on the system configuration.
Emergency operation and fail-safe functions
Depending on vessel class requirements and the individual application, remotely operated valves can be equipped with emergency operating arrangements including:
-
manual handwheel
-
manual hydraulic pump
-
fail-safe self-closing function
-
fail-safe self-opening function
The appropriate arrangement is selected according to valve duty, installation location and the safety philosophy of the respective piping system.
Control and monitoring with SANSYS
SANCONTROL can be operated and monitored through the SANSYS Control & Monitoring System by SANDER MARINE.
Operation can be provided from a central control cabinet or from decentralized operating stations including:
-
bridge
-
Cargo Control Room
-
Pump Room
-
other local or centralized control stations
System status can be displayed as a tabular valve overview or through a customized graphical representation of the complete piping system.
Integration with vessel automation systems
SANCONTROL can interface with the vessel's:
-
IAS – Integrated Automation System
-
AMS – Alarm Monitoring System
through conventional wiring or a suitable bus interface.
In addition to valve operation, the RCVS can be configured for the operation and monitoring of external equipment such as pumps and Ballast Water Treatment Systems.
Applications
SANCONTROL can be integrated into systems including:
-
Ballast systems
-
Bilge systems
-
Fuel oil systems
-
Cargo systems
-
Seawater and auxiliary piping systems
-
Pump systems
-
Ballast Water Treatment Systems
-
Vessel automation and monitoring systems
SANDER MARINE references include remote valve control installations for commercial vessels, offshore units and naval vessels, covering applications such as ballast, seawater cooling, fire seawater, cargo and bilge systems.
Classification societies
The SANCONTROL RCVS is accepted by major classification societies. SANDER MARINE specifically lists DNV, Lloyd’s Register (LR), Bureau Veritas (BV) and RMRS, among others.
System engineering and selection
The configuration of a remote valve control system depends on several engineering parameters, including:
-
valve type and size
-
available actuator power source
-
required opening and closing time
-
installation location
-
environmental conditions
-
OPEN/CLOSED or continuous position feedback requirements
-
fail-safe requirements
-
redundancy requirements
-
IAS / AMS interface requirements
-
vessel classification and class society requirements
