Hafner 5/2 Mechanical Air Valves

Hafner 5/2 mechanical valves are used for controlling double-acting pneumatic cylinders where actuation is triggered by mechanical contact—such as a plunger, roller lever, or machine cam. The five-port, two-position configuration alternates supply and exhaust between the two cylinder chambers, enabling bidirectional motion control.

Actuation Types

  • BV 511: Stem actuated, suitable for axial mechanical force input.
  • BR 511: Roller lever, for actuation by moving guides or cams.
  • BL 511: Roller lever with idle return, actuates only in one direction of travel.

Available port sizes: M5, G 1/8”, G 1/4”. Flow rates range from 125 to 1250 l/min. Operating pressure: -0.9 to 10 bar. Actuation forces: 3.5–14 N, depending on type and size.

Selection Criteria

Selection should consider:

  • required cylinder flow rate,
  • available installation space,
  • mechanical approach direction,
  • required actuation force,
  • side or axial loading on the actuator,
  • need for actuation in one or both directions.

For large cylinders or higher speeds, use G 1/4” / 1250 l/min variants. For position feedback or small actuators, M5 or G 1/8” is sufficient.

Typical Applications

Used in packaging machinery, cylinder end-position detection, mechanical interlocks, pneumatic sequencing without electrical signals, clamping stations, and assembly lines. Suitable for filtered, lubricated or non-lubricated compressed air.

Maintenance

Inspect roller wear, cam alignment, port leakage, spring return, air cleanliness, and mechanical stops. Excessive side load on the lever may alter switching point or increase wear. Periodic checks are recommended for reliable operation.
